Dec. 6, 2018: Beyond Our Borders: Building Physical Therapy Capacity

Capacity building is a commonly used phrase within the global health arena, but what does it mean for physical therapists who design, develop and deliver programs? Two speakers with a broad range of capacity-building experience will utilize their expertise, evidence, and case study examples to expand your understanding of capacity building.

Educational Objectives:

  • Define capacity building as it relates to the training of physical therapists and program development beyond the borders of the United States.
  • Describe principles of capacity building relating to program administration, clinical application, and volunteerism.
  • Discuss strategies for developing and implementing sustainable capacity building programs for PT programs at U.S. universities.
  • Discuss opportunities and the role of short-term volunteers in capacity building initiatives.
  • Describe the role of monitoring and evaluation of capacity building programs from administration and clinical perspectives.
  • Discuss funding opportunities for developing capacity building programs and volunteers.
