Today more than ever, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants are an integral part of our health care. APTA Academy of Leadership & Innovation is at the forefront of moving our field forward. APTA Academy of Leadership & Innovation awards are an excellent way to acknowledge PTs, PTAs and students who have contributed to our profession.

Purpose:
  • Recognize the APTA Leadership & Innovation member whose contributions and actions have helped advance APTA Leadership & Innovation and its initiatives.
Eligibility:
  • Current APTA member in good standing.
  • Current APTA Academy of Leadership & Innovation member in good standing of at least two years.
  • All APTA membership classes are eligible.
  • Current members of the Academy Board of Directors are not eligible.
  • Outgoing members of the Academy Board of Directors are eligible.
Criteria:
  • Member has demonstrated outstanding contributions and leadership in the section.
  • Member’s actions have had a significant effect in advancing the agenda of the section.
Nominations:
  • Nominations should be accompanied by at least two supporting letters of recommendation.
Nomination Form
Purpose:
  • To recognize APTA members whose actions have impacted health policy.
Eligibility:
  • Current APTA member in good standing.
  • All APTA membership classes are eligible.
  • Section membership is not required.
Criteria:
  • The member has demonstrated leadership in health policy making at the state or national level.
  • The member’s actions have influenced or resulted in a significant policy change at the state or national level.
  • The member initiated a policy shift of broad magnitude for the profession. 
Nominations:
  • Nominations will be accompanied by at least one letter of recommendation specifically addressing the eligibility criteria for this award, and two additional letters of support. 
Nomination Form

Purpose:
The purpose of the LAMPLighter Award is to recognize those who have affected significant change through formal or informal leadership.

The recipient will exemplify the spirit of leadership within the profession of physical therapy through, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Applying personal leadership skills in formal or informal leadership roles.
  • Changing culture, transforming organizations, and/or sparking innovation.
  • Implementing methods to keep the spirit of leadership alive throughout the profession.

Eligibility:

  • Nominations may be submitted from individual Academy members and all APTA Chapters or Sections.
  • Nominees are not required to be Academy members.
  • Nominations must be substantiated by written information including the application form and
    at least one letter of reference attesting to the nominee’s leadership.    
  • Current members of the Academy Board of Directors are not eligible for this award.
  • Outgoing members of the Academy Board of Directors are eligible for this award.

Criteria:

The following criteria will serve as a measurement rubric for assessing the merits of submitted
nominations:

  • Clear explanation of leadership initiative(s) [30%].
  • Creativity/innovation with leadership efforts [30%].
  • Magnitude of change occurring due to the nominee’s leadership [20%].
  • Weight of letters of support from constituents involved in the nominee’s leadership initiative [20%].
Nomination Form

Purpose: 

  • To recognize a member of the APTA whose contributions and actions have demonstrated leadership in the promotion of social responsibility, locally and or globally, through service, scholarship, and/or advocacy.

Eligibility:

  • Current APTA member in good standing. 
  • All APTA membership classes are eligible.
  • Current members of the Academy Board of Directors are not eligible.
  • Outgoing members of the Academy Board of Directors are  eligible.
  • Current members of the GHSIG Executive Committee are not eligible.
  • Outgoing members of the Academy Board of Directors are eligible.
  • GHSIG membership is not required of nominators.

Criteria: 

  • Member has demonstrated leadership in the promotion of social responsibility, locally and/or globally, through service, scholarship, and/or advocacy.

Nominations: 

  • Nominations will be accompanied by at least one letter of recommendation specifically addressing the eligibility and criteria for this award.
Nomination Form

Purpose:

  • To acknowledge and honor an APTA member who has demonstrated dedication and outstanding value by his or her contributions to Technology and Innovation in Physical Therapy.

Eligibility:

  • Any APTA member in good standing.

Criteria:

The nominee shall have made substantial contributions to Technology and Innovation in Physical Therapy in one or more of the following areas:

  • Demonstrated prominent contributions in advancing the interests, objectives, and strategic plan of the APTA Academy of Leadership & Innovation Technology in PT Special Interest Group (TechSIG).
  • Developed, integrated, and/or researched significant technologies or innovations and/or their components that have impacted the field of physical therapy.
  • Advanced public/professional awareness of technology use in physical therapy.

Nominations:

Nominations may be submitted by any Academy member.

The materials submitted for each nomination shall include:

  • A minimum of two (2) letters of support which address the criteria for selection by individuals who have first-hand knowledge of the nominee’s contributions. Letters must include contact information (name, title, address, phone, email) to allow verification due to electronic nature of the submission.
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae.
  • Any relevant publication(s), grant proposal(s) or grant award letter(s), patent or trademark certificates.
  • APTA member number as applicable.

The Innovation in Community Outreach Award recognizes physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students who have demonstrated exceptional creativity and effectiveness in developing and implementing initiatives that advance population health, prevention, health promotion, and wellness within their communities.

Purpose:

This award, presented by the Population Health Special Interest Group of the Academy of Leadership and Innovation, celebrates those who embody the group's mission to connect people, knowledge, and resources for the betterment of society's health.

Eligibility:
Any current member of the APTA Academy of Leadership and Innovation Population Health Special Interest Group.

Award Criteria:
Recipients of the Innovation in Community Outreach Award will be selected based on their demonstrated excellence in the following areas:

  • Innovative Approach: The initiative should showcase a novel or highly creative approach to addressing a community health need. This could involve new partnerships, unique delivery methods, or inventive uses of existing resources.
  • Impact and Outcomes: Clear evidence of the initiative's positive impact on the target population and community. This includes measurable outcomes related to health promotion, disease prevention, improved access to care, or enhanced well-being.
  • Replicability and Sustainability: The initiative should demonstrate potential for replication in other communities or settings, and ideally have a plan for long-term sustainability beyond the initial implementation phase.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Evidence of successful collaboration with community organizations, other healthcare professionals, or stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Alignment with Mission: The initiative must clearly align with the mission of the Population Health Special Interest Group, demonstrating a commitment to advancing population health, prevention, health promotion, and wellness for all members of society.
