This August, Mercedes Aguirre Valenzuela, PT, DPT was able to meet with staff of Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ). Rep. Sherrill has already supported our profession by introducing the Expanded Telehealth Access Act (H.R. 3875) and she is focusing on maternal health at the moment.
Dr. Valenzuela used that information to focus on the Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act (H.R. 2480) during an August Recess meeting.She found a clinic located in the same congressional district as Rep. Sherrill and asked the pelvic health PT/clinic owner to join her in the meeting.
A few days after the August recess meeting, Dr. Valenzuela received this email from Rep. Sherrill’s staff:
“Hi Mercedes – I hope you’re doing well. I just wanted to follow up here and let you know that Rep. Sherrill signed on as a cosponsor to the Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act that we discussed the other week. Thank you again for the work you do and look forward to staying in touch!”
