This course explores the multifaceted concept of humility and its critical role in compassionate, culturally responsive, and ethically grounded physical therapy. Participants will engage in defining humility for themselves and differentiate the various types of humility—including cultural, intellectual, moral, personal, and intergenerational—and consider how humility intersects with awe, identity, and professional physical therapy practice. Learners will investigate how dominant cultural frameworks may undervalue humility, framing it as weakness rather than strength. The course will challenge participants to consider how these narratives shape physical therapy practice, workplace dynamics, and the ability to say “I don’t know” in clinical and collaborative settings.
This course will offer strategies for cultivating humility as a lifelong practice. Participants will explore how humility supports curiosity, compassion, and accountability, and how it can be a powerful tool for change, resilience, and ethical stewardship toward those we serve.
