Jeff Hartman, PT, DPT, MPH

Jeff Hartman, PT, DPT, MPH, is an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated with a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Evansville. Dr. Hartman serves as the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Competency sub-committee, the editorial toolkit taskforce, and as a research/analytic committee, and is a member of the Global Health Institute Advisory Committee at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Hartman holds a substantial global health background on his resume. One of his supporter’s states “In 2020, Jeff received a Fulbright Scholarship and returned to Belize to conduct a situational analysis of the physical therapy profession throughout the country. Even though his stay was cut short by the COVID epidemic, Jeff was able to gather information from physical therapists in Belize about their training, the scope of their daily practice, and the challenges they face. Jeff shared the information locally and with WCPT, contributing to the development of physical therapy internationally, and gave a research presentation at World Physiotherapy Congress 2021. During his time in Belize, Jeff also sought to increase knowledge about people with disabilities and physical therapy among other professional groups by proposing changes in the nursing, education, and social work curricula at the University of Belize.”

Another supporter states “Jeff’s dedication and commitment to communities throughout Belize, his willingness to adapt, and the ease with which he handles uncertainty serve as an inspiration to his students and everyone that knows him. Jeff has emerged as a community and global health leader in our profession. His humble nature, eagerness to learn, and willingness to put the needs of the community first make him well-suited for the Ronnie Leavitt Award.”

Through his ongoing global health activities shaped by thoughtful, continual personal and professional growth, Jeff embodies the value and spirit of the Dr. Ronnie Leavitt Award of Leadership in Promotion of Social Responsibility in Physical Therapy. Congratulations Dr. Hartman.
