Description

Capacity building is a commonly used phrase within the global health arena but what does it mean for physical therapists who design, develop and deliver programs beyond the borders of the United States?  What are important components of capacity building and how are they applied?  Are there opportunities for PT students from US university programs and PTs wanting short term experiences for building capacity? Where does the funding come from for these opportunities?  The Global Health Special Interest Group (GHSIG) is offering a webinar to discuss these very questions. Two speakers with a broad range of capacity building experience will utilize their expertise, the evidence, and case study examples to expand your understanding of capacity building.

Educational Objectives:

1.Define capacity building as it relates to the training of physical therapists and program development beyond the borders of the United States

2.Describe principles of capacity building relating to program administration, clinical application, and volunteerism

3.Discuss strategies for developing and implementing sustainable capacity building programs for PT programs at US universities

4.Discuss opportunities and the role of short-term volunteers in capacity building initiatives

5.Describe the role of monitoring and evaluation of capacity building programs from administration and clinical perspectives

6.Discuss funding opportunities for developing capacity building programs and volunteers.
