According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2016, there were over 42,000 opioid-related overdose deaths in the United States and 11.5 million people reported they had misused prescription opioids. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants understand their role in a treatment plan for reducing pain, a large contributor to the misuse of opioids. However, we should also be active members of an expanded interprofessional role related to the prevention of opioid use disorder. Join us for an introductory webinar focused on applying Team Science to an Interprofessional Approach to the prevention of Opioid Use Disorder.

About The Presenter: Tina Gunaldo, PhD, DPT, MHS
Tina Gunaldo is the director for the Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans. She has engaged in IPE for the past seven years. In addition to presentations and publications, Dr. Gunaldo serves on the Louisiana Immunization Workgroup supporting a collaborative approach to increasing immunization rates, as well as contributes to the development of the Louisiana Area Health Education Center's (AHEC) Scholar curricular program. Most importantly, Dr. Gunaldo is supported by a wonderful team of over 100 faculty trained in IPE, who have supported and/or integrated IPE into their academic practice.
