About the Webinar

This interactive forum will bring together four speakers from the physical therapy profession and beyond to discuss evidence for the benefits and drawbacks of short-term engagements in global health, like service learning and medical missions trips. Through evidence-based presentations and interactive discussions, the presenters will strive to challenge those that organize, participate in, and lead these engagements.

Learning objectives:
  • Describe the evidence for the benefits and drawbacks of short-term engagements in global health related to volunteerism, study, service learning, and medical mission trips.
  • Describe the key principles of the Brocher Deceleration which aims to support persons and organizations to make every effort to maximize the value and minimize the harm of short-term engagements in global health.
  • Reflect on your actions and the actions of the organizations/institutions that you work with to explore opportunities to minimize risk and maximize benefit for all.
