About the Webinar
This webinar is designed to educate professionals and students on the LGBTQIA+ community, and the importance of cultural competence as a necessary skill to ensure that best practice and optimal care is provided to individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.
The webinar will cover health disparities and discrimination experienced within the LGBTQIA+ community, correct use of pronouns, terms to avoid, definitions of key terms and concepts (i.e. gender identity, sexual identity, gender expression, bottom and top surgery, non-binary), and strategies for professionals and students to build trusting therapeutic relationships with LGBTQIA+ patients/clients.
Issues specific to gender transition and gender affirmation will be discussed in detail. Additionally, due to the current absence of clinical practice guidelines, the latest evidence regarding interacting with sexual and gender minority bodies in the clinical settings will be explored through a direct access lens, with the ultimate goal of making informed clinical decisions regarding examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and prognosis.
Participants will be able to:
- Implement LGBTQ+ affirming language and terminology.
- Integrate behavioral changes to establish equity for LGBTQ+ clients, colleagues, and patients.
- Formulate an LGBTQ+ inclusive culture within their organization.
Presenter:
Chris W. Condran, PT, DPT, MBA-HCM, MS Adjunct Professor - Lebanon Valley College and Arcadia University Per Diem Physical Therapist – Select Medical HPA The Catalyst PT Proud Board Member
